Glenn's first day at the Pavilion

The good thing about getting in late, sleeping well till 7:30, is that the 2 hour jet lag is history in one day. Awoke to blue, blue, sunny skies here in Vancouver. After working through the transit schedules last night with Moira, we decided that the 41 ave bus and Main street bus would be the easiest route. We were right. Caught the bus at 9:20 and was down at the Pavilion site by 10:00. Killed a half an hour browsing through displays around the Russian Pavilion (Science Center) and then reported for duty at the Sask Pavilion. A quick tour of the site, and then the short but efficient instructions.

My first posting today was manning the Emergency Exit near the food counter and bar. This was a good location, lots of people stopped to chat, amazed at how many Saskatchewan folks volunteered their time to come to Vancouver to work. Met Saskatchewan people, including some of Ben Hebert's relatives, former Melville people and current Saskatchewan people. Even a few ex pats stopped by to chat. I might even be a celebrity as a couple of gals wanted their picture taken with someone in a Sask Pavilion jacket, and I was near by. Also chatted with a former work colleague of mine, met his wife and his 3 month year old son.

It was Rider day today, and Chris Getzlaf, Stu Foord, Luc Mullinder and George Reed patiently sat and signed autographs for about 2 1/2 hours.

By 4:00, the pavilion had hosted 3800 visitors today. The food venue continues to be a hit, and continues to run out of food, because of VANOC delivery rules. Out of perogies, lentil burgers, Saskatoon tarts, many beveridges, but not beer and bison burgers.

Got to listen to Jack Semple's True Jive Pluckers for about an hour, great musicians and entertainers. The place was starting to hop when I left at 4:00.

Next shift is 8:00 pm Friday. It should be hopping then.

Took a While!

Well yesterday is over, only took 10 hours to get to Vancouver from Regina on the 3 hours direct flight. What with fog in Calgary, fog in Regina, missed connection in Calgary and milk run through Kelowna to Vancouver. Good thing the airports had big screen tv's to watch the curling and snowboarding at the Olympics. At least the Olympic line was not busy at 9:30 pm.

One Week to Go!

Well one week from today I will be heading to Vancouver for my first shift at the Pavilion on Wednesday, Feb 17. Looking at the sponsor list, it will be Saskatchewan Roughrider day on Wednesday. The Leader Post today indicated that some Riders will be at the Pavilion, Chris Getslaf, being one of them. Have to remember to pack my rider green to wear on Wednesday. Unfortunately will be missing City of Regina day this Saturday where they will unveil their new logo! Oh well can't take it all in....

Must go and start on my packing list!
